Clapotis Landscape

I finished my clapotis! Just in time too, as it was quite cold this morning and it was nice to have a soft wool wrap to keep my neck warm. I will be playing with it all day.

This took a solid weekend of knitting the straight section, and then knitting the decreases impatiently as I watched it get closer and closer to finished.

I would love to make this again in a lighter weight yarn and smaller needles, either for a smaller size or for a lighter weight wrap in the same size. If i were to do one in the same size, though, it would be a million and a half stitches on each row and my hands cramp just thinking of that. We'll see.

Only two pairs of socks left for christmas presents and then I'm baby shower knitting and then I think I can take a break. My fingers have earned it.

Birthday Weekend

So far the whole birthday thing is going well. Friday I went to my parents' house where they gave me the money for the birthday present I got myself in December - a swift and ballwinder. It was originally for christmas, but that's what you get for having a January birthday sometimes. They made cheeseburgers for dinner, which I had specially requsted. Mom made them on the grill and they were excellent. I got home too late on Friday to really make any progress on my Clapotis, which I intended to work on all weekend as a present to myself.

Saturday I slept in and then worked on the Clapotis until it was time to go to dinner. We went to Arundel Mills to meet Christine and my brother for dinner, Chris picked up my dinner as a present. Poor kid's nearly broke and has some legal issues impending, so I felt a little bad that I wasn't buying his dinner. Luckily he still had the Target gift card I got him for christmas so he could go get some food.

Sunday I worked all day and night on the clapotis. By the end of the day my hands weren't necessarily in pain, but they were really stiff and I knew I had better stop. I'm hoping to get it finished by tomorrow night so I can wear it Wednesday. That's probably the first day this week I'll need a wool scarf. I'm also hoping that I have enough yarn left over for a Calorimetry, but I don't know yet.

I hope I don't have to type too much today. This post is already making my hand cramp a little.

Happy Birthday to me

It wasn't too different from any other day, really. Although a coworker sang to me three times (not the whole song any of those times, that would have been weird) and Christine gave me a balloon. And a giftcard to Starbucks. She knows me so well.

This is my birthday present to myself; I finally started my Clapotis. Actually, I started it New Year's weekend, but I worked on it a little yesterday and I'll work on it more tonight. On the right you can see the beginnings of the dropped stitches. It'll definitely need some blocking when I'm done. The only way the dropped side would stay flat was if i held the corner under the couch cushion.

I'm making it in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in the Black Purl colorway. I yub this yarn. I want to snuggle in it, especially after using it for christine's baby blanket (below). Once it had been washed (yay machine washable!!) with some Eucalan, it was soft and incredible. I can't wait for this to be finished, washed, and ready to wear (i.e., blocked). I just hope it gets cold sometime this winter to require its use.

And one more thing. Here's the finished version of Christine's other baby blanket made from Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in Happy Valley. Love this blanket. After washing the finished version with some Eucalan in the water, it ended up so soft and comfy. I'm glad my Clapotis is being made of the same yarn. :)

Christmas presents

One of the christmas presents I finished. It's a model DNA Structure for my Bio teacher roommate. IT was pretty fun to make and fairly easy, but since I made it of Wool of the Andes from KnitPicks, it's a little scratchy. Oh well.

I also finished my brother's slippers. And the scarf had been done for a long time. I still owe two pairs of socks. I'm hoping to get those before the end of January. Then it's on to baby shower #2's presents and maybe finishing my clapotis sometime before winter is over.
